While poking through music yesterday, I found a song that was very, very Roy, and decided to be a geek and make a Conversion soundtrack.

The art for the cover is a lovely fanart I received from [info]hikaru_9. You can see the full version here.

Alter!Roy/Ed songs:

1. Far Away - Nickelback

That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

Far Away has always been Conversion's unofficial theme song. Nickelback is an amazing group, and the song just meshes so perfectly with the feel of the story and the relationship between Alter!Roy and Ed.

2. I Will Not Forget You - Sarah Mclachlan

I remember the nights I watched as you lay sleeping
Your body gripped by some far away dream
Well I was so scared and so in love then
And so lost in all of you that I had seen

When I heard this song, it was Alter!Roy singing to Ed in my head. The lyrics are a little melancholy, and absolutely perfect. I tend to think of Alter!Roy in this state of mind right after Edward left.

3. The Sun and The Moon - Mae

Wasted time.
I cannot say that I was ready for this.
But when worlds collide,
and all that I have is all that I want.
The words seem to flow
and the thoughts they keep running.
And all that I have is yours.
All that I am is yours.

This one is mostly instrumental, but the few lyrics are very much Alter!Roy to Ed. He's such a romantic, that Alter!Roy. :D

4. Let Me Go - 3 Doors Down

And you love me but you don't know who I am
I'm torn between this life I lead and where I stand
And you love me but you don't know who I am
So let me go, let me go

Ed to Alter!Roy, before he really understood exactly what it was he wanted.

5. Carnival of Rust - Poets of the Fall

Come feed the rain
'cause I'm thirsty for your love, dancing underneath the skies of lust
Yeah, feed the rain
'cause without your love, my life ain't nothing but this carnival of rust

Alter!Roy being a bit emo over Ed. This song doesn't fit quite as well as some of the others, but the the soundtrack needed a slightly darker song, and the feel, if not always the lyrics, fits Conversion very well.

Roy/Ed songs:

6. Crash and Burn - Savage Garden

When you feel all alone
And a loyal friend is hard to find
You're caught in a one way street
With the monsters in your head
When hopes and dreams are far away and
You feel like you can't face the day

This is the one that kicked off things. I heard this song yesterday and it was SO Roy that it actually made me feel guilty about ending Conversion the way I'm going to. This song sums up Roy's feelings for Ed perfectly, feelings that I'm afraid I haven't been able to explore fully in the story itself, but he really does care for Ed. Maybe even loves him, and he wants to do everything he can for him.

7. Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon

He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why

Ed and Roy...well, the lyrics really say it all here.

8. Patience - Take That

Just have a little patience

I'm still hurting from a love I lost,
I'm feeling your frustration,
any minute all the pain will stop,
Just hold me close inside your arms tonight,
don't be too hard on my emotions.

This song is very much about Ed trying to move past Alter!Roy. He's trying to learn to love Roy, but all things take time.

9. Never Too Late - 3 Days Grace

Now and again we try
To just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it all around
'Cause it's not too late
It's never too late

I had this song on repeat for most of chapter 12. It's a bit hard to pin down why this one feels so much like Ed and Roy to me, but I suppose it's something like Roy offering Ed a second chance.

Misc. songs:

10. Kaze no Machi he - Tsubasa

Japanese

I can't recall exactly what the lyrics mean, but this song is often on while I'm writing, and I'll usually play it when writing an emotional scene of some kind. It's very pretty.

11. Over the Hill and Far Away - Nightwish

Over the hills and far away,
he swears he will return one day.
Far from the mountains and the seas,
back in her arms he swears he'll be.
Over the hills and far away.

This will probably seem like a strange choice, but believe it or not, I had this song running repeat the entire time I was writing chapter 5. The story behind it is nothing like Conversion's, but the overall theme, that of a man separated from his love, should seem familiar.

12. Sadame (Guitar Version) - X

Instrumental

A very pretty instrumental piece that I listen to often while working. It often plays background music to some of the more dramatic scenes.

I Knew I Loved You - Savage Garden

There's just no rhyme or reason
Only this sense of completion
And in your eyes
I see the missing pieces
I'm searching for
I think I've found my way home

Technically this should go on the first part of the soundtrack with the other Alter!Roy/Ed songs, but this one is such a sappy guilty pleasure, I couldn't bring myself to put it with the more serious songs. It still fits them perfectly though. XD

Nickleback and Nightwish.
We have crossovers in music tastes. (As well as the obvious CLAMP music)

Strangely, I always think of 'Over the Hills and Far Away' as EdWin rather than RoyEd.

I'm debating to download or not. Can't make my mind up.

I've got a very eclectic taste in music, I listen to damn near anything and everything. XD

Not being an EdWin fan, I never really gave it much thought. Mostly, it went on there because it's the only thing I listened to while writing chapter 5. >.>;

I say do it!

Dammit, still haven't finished reading Conversion yet, but... I wrote a review thingy on the songs?

Patience - Such an Ed song, and I think a really good track for me to start playing. I agree with the sentiment that it's him getting past alter!Roy
Kaze no machi he - It translates to something like "To the town of wind". Take it as an aphorism for alter!world or take it as another moving on song. It is one of my favourite songs from the Tsubasa sound track anyway.
Let me go - I think it's more Mustang reacting to Ed being in turmoil over who he's really seeing. Suits Conversion though
I knew I loved you - Ugh.. this song plagued my childhood. I am reacting negatively to it. Although... I suppose it could be alter!Roy...
Carnival of rust - It's the end chapters, which I have to still read. That and the middle chapters, where the experiment is going underway. However that's in terms of feel, which is that of something's going to happen, something tumultuous. It's a good choice too.
The sun and moon - It's alter!Roy writing in his journal and thinking of Ed! It's quite and reflecting and it's more directed rather than said towards Ed. For throughout the ENTIRE series.
I will not forget you - It does have a feel of alter!roy after Ed has left, that's for certain. But it's also somewhat that both of them, will never forget the other, even if Ed has gotten over alter!roy.
Over the hills and far away - This has always been an EdWin song for me. But I can see why you see some sort of Ed/Roy in there. It's more Ed/Mustang to me though...
Never too late - Still having not read the end of the series, I'm not sure how this would fit in. But it's kind of [Mustang] saying that the world isn't perfect, nobody is perfect, but I still love you, no matter what you do. It's also another "I'm not the one who you fell in love with" song.
Far away - My Roy/Ed love for this song is boundless. As to particulars, it's definitely Ed to Roy.
Sadame - It doesn't feel particularly action packed to me, and it rather feels like the revelational moments that litter the story, especially the reading of Roy's journal entries.
Crash and burn - This was another one that plagued my childhood, although I like this one far better. It remind me of rainy days spent reading listening to the radio and when I listen to it critically, it conveys a similar feeling that even in rain and storm there's something good in it. And listening to lyrics it speaks of selfless love (mmm, my favourite type) particularly on Roy's side.
Everything you want - Strangely, I think is more of a general, pre-conversion song where Ed's looking at Roy and seeing all the things he wants to be.

You still haven't finished Conversion? I'm wounded! XD

But yeah, that was all pretty spot on. My thoughts regarding a lot of the songs are a bit roundabout, since the music itself has more of an impact than the lyrics at times, and not usually in the same way.

Go finish it! *poke* ;)

Great story! I'm downloading the music right now. I must say, your story has given me yet another idea to shuffle away into the dusty recesses of my brain that is my unwritten ideas. They activate the array, and the whole damn house ends up in Amestris. Cue screams of "WTF JUST HAPPENED!"

Anyway, great story, and I'm looking forward to the music. I wanted to say something else here, but I forgot.
